Notes from Kathoga:
"Thunderwing has so far proven to be a sleeper hit in the Junkion scene, usually as a sideboard character in Two Tall strategies (and as a replacement for Ion Storm), but he hasn't had the same love in any of the other formats. And while this most likely won't be top tier, I figured I would at least give it a shot of trying to make him relevant in another format, while at the same time bringing back a blast from the past from the early meta. To that end, my Thunderwing submission team include Fangry w/Kreb and Mercenary Bumblebee for the T1 format.

I decided to go Blue/Black because I knew I wanted to pair him up with Merc Bee and, at the moment, the best Merc cards lean towards that strategy and toward Decepticons, so Fangry with Kreb were the logical choice to round out the team. Both have decent stats and are tanky enough that they should survive a decent amount of attacks. Merc Bee is there for the Merc card access, and Fangry has proven to be suprisingly effective in a Blue/Black strategy. I don't think we've ever seen Thunderwing in T1, and aside from maybe Sturdy Boys, I think this deck could do fine in the current meta.

Since this is essentially a Blue Pierce deck, the obvious staples of Scoundrel's Blaster, Energon Axe, and Fusion Borer are included. A 1 of Laser Cutlass is there since 3/4 of the team can use it (could maybe go to a 2 of.) The Point Positions are there to either force into or off of Thunderwing, since his base 3 def in a blue shell (with most likely an armor on him) means he'll be able to tank more than the others. Depending on your opponent, you'll either want him as your center piece, or he's just there for the free pinging and possibly Photon Bomb upon his ko.

Over to the actions, nothing really crazy here. The Counterespionage is there mostly for Stable Covers, Dry Gulches, or Hold the Lines. Tripwire is for the wide decks, and the 1 of Must Die Sometime is for Sturdy decks.

Last but not least, as far as sideboard characters go, the best one I can think of is another oldie but goodie: Horri-Bull. Being a Blue/Black list, with the sideboard most likely having more black pip cards, means that you'll most likely have plenty of time to get all the free pings you need to wear your opponent down. This sideboard plan isn't for every opponent, as we have currently seen there are more than enough ways/teams that can mitigate direct damage, so Horri-Bull is there to punish those who don't respect direct damage strategies.
